Neuroscience could alter feeling disappointed
Finding an antidote for feeling let-down may now be possible. Researchers at UC San Diego have identified a control mechanism for an area of the brain that processes sensory and emotive information that humans experience as feeling depressed.
“The idea that some people see the world as a glass half empty has a chemical basis in the brain,” said senior author Roberto Malinow. “What we have found is a process that may dampen the brain’s sensitivity to negative life events.”
Because people struggling with depression are believed to register negative experiences more strongly than others, the study’s findings have implications for understanding not just why some people have a brain chemistry that predisposes them to depression but also how to treat it.

Tool Live DVD 2014.
Well here it is. The “special” upload I’ve been promising for far too long. Sorry you guys had to wait. It’s nothing too extraordinary, but it certainly hasn’t been done before. A full Tool live dvd experience. Obviously, this should only serve as a humble DIY substitution for a live dvd/bluray until a real one gets released, whenever that may happen. I see this more as a documentation of Tool’s superb 2014 tour. I also hope that I can hold off people from going insane from waiting 9 years on new Tool music by enjoying this little gift to all Tool fans. The audio of this live dvd is my unreleased (well, now it’s released) improved mix of Hoserama’s absolutely incredible IEM capture of Tool’s concert in Reno, NV on March 9, 2014. I’ve spent more time on the audio processing this time then I’ve ever done before, and I think you can definitely hear that. I know I shouldn’t say something like this, but I think this mix version might very well be the best sounding Tool concert to date. You decide. The original audio had the guitar and bass signals isolated to one ear each, this has been fixed, both have been equally fused together and brought into a stereo field equal to a studio recording. I’ve worked until the last minute on the, in my opinion, superbly punchy and balanced EQ bus, until I finally had to export because your collective cries for the special video where getting too much :). I also went back and corrected a couple of things, which was partially the reason I didn’t upload on the day I said I would. I did a ton of stereo editing in general to give the audio an overall VERY full depth range. The main EQ frequencies are saturated to a good balance, while remaining aggressive. At this point you’re probably rolling your eyes from the technical babble, so I’ll stop with that. No I won’t. Here and there I added barely noticeable peripheral reverb, when necessary boosted the volume a little and exported the end result at the currently highest lossless container possible (at least to mortals), 512 point sinc WAV, all to give you the very best cinematic Tool experience possible. I should add more irrelevant technical info, right? I know all this probably sounds really arrogant, but hey, I enjoyed doing it and I think it’s worthy of a listen/watch. I spent quite some time trying to make it presentable as one cohesive and immersive concert experience. Mixing good footage with little interesting bits and pieces makes it really fun to watch and was actually fun to do. All instruments have their own space, while Maynard’s voice is so upfront in the mix that it sounds like he’s singing right in front of you. Everything is nicely balanced, but the necessary hard hitting moments are plenty. The video material is a compilation of essentially all concerts of Tool’s 2014 tour, with a primary focus on Reno (where the audio capture is from), Spokane, both San Francisco nights, Eugene, Cedar Park and the Mexico shows, though all concerts are featured. I tried to cut multi angle cam edits in a way that keeps you excited to watch, instead of just one static view point. It’s not perfect but it’s hopefully something to enjoy and to use as aid for the excruciating wait on whatever Tool will do, soon, sometime, years from now, never. The performance itself is insanely tight, full of the familiar holy Tool energy and will give you goosebumps several times. I tried to make continuity a main focus, but sometimes I had to resort to good editing. I have cut out the musicless Intermission and Danny Carey’s drum solo, which I really didn’t want, but he played a different solo every night and there was no good footage of that particular night to sync it up with, and nothing I did looked decent, so I had to take it out. As compensation, I released a Danny Carey drum solo compilation a little while ago. There are no fancy menus, intros or outros, it’s just Tool from start to finish. I intentionally left the end as a couple seconds of silence. Some people still don’t know what that thing actually truly represents. If you are a true Tool fan (and have the time), then turn off all the lights, get comfortable, set it to 1080p, and if you partake of illuminous material, now is the time, and ride the spiral from beginning to the end.
Hope you enjoy it. If I manage, I’ll post a full list of all the filmers of the video footage.
